FAQ
What is Woke Dissident?
A political commentary site. One person, writing about authoritarianism, Republican hypocrisy, economic reality, and the erosion of democratic norms in the United States. Every post has sources. Every claim has evidence. The opinions are the author’s own and stated without apology.
Why “Woke Dissident”?
Two words that both get used as weapons.
“Woke” in its original sense meant awareness — specifically, the kind of awareness Black Americans needed to survive a country that wanted to kill them for protesting. The right turned it into a slur for anyone who cares about other people or notices systems of oppression. That framing can go to hell. Being progressive, caring about people beyond your immediate zip code, and understanding how power works is not an insult. It’s a starting point.
“Dissident” because in the early days of MAGA 2.0, criticizing the administration was treated as something close to treason. If the label fits, wear it.
Together they describe someone who is paying attention and refuses to shut up about it. That’s the site.
Is this satire?
No. The tone is sardonic because the situation warrants it, but the arguments are serious and the facts are real. When something is funny it’s because it’s actually funny, not because the underlying point is a joke.
Why do you cite everything?
Because assertions without evidence are just noise. The right-wing media ecosystem runs on vibes and repetition. This site runs on sources. If a claim can’t be backed up it doesn’t go in the post. If you think a source is wrong, email in with a better one.
What is your position on Israel and Palestine?
Unambiguous: what is happening in Gaza is a genocide. The word applies. Israel was founded through the forced displacement of the native Palestinian population and that process has continued, with U.S. funding, ever since. This site opposes U.S. military and financial support for Israel unconditionally. That position is not antisemitism. Opposition to Zionism is not hatred of Jewish people. Ethnic cleansing is wrong regardless of who does it.
Are you affiliated with any political party?
No. Unapologetic leftist, no party card. Votes Democrat when the alternative is worse, which is most of the time, but the Democratic Party is not this site’s team. The whole two-party system is a problem. AIPAC owns both sides. Billionaires own both sides. A parliamentary system with actual competing interests would be better. That’s not on the ballot, so here we are.
Are you a journalist?
No formal press credentials. Background is in marketing. The approach to posts — primary sources, data, cited claims — is closer to research than reporting. Draw your own distinction.
Who are you?
Working-class kid from California. California public schools, grad school in Manchester, UK. Works in marketing. Lives outside the United States. White, male, aware of what that means. Writing because silence feels worse than the alternative.
The site is kept deliberately low-profile. Not because the positions are anything to hide, but because we live in a time when political speech carries real risk. Act accordingly.
Are you the only writer?
Yes, for now.
How do I submit a tip or correction?
Email [email protected]. Corrections are taken seriously. If something is wrong, it gets fixed and noted.
I used to believe the MAGA stuff. Is there help?
Yes, actually. LeavingMAGA.org is a real resource for people who are questioning the movement. No judgment. The goal is fewer people in the cult, not scoring points.
