About Woke Dissident
Woke Dissident is a political commentary site. It covers authoritarianism, Republican hypocrisy, media failure, and the slow-motion collapse of American democracy — with sources. Every claim gets a citation. Every argument gets evidence. Opinions are stated plainly.
The name is intentional. “Woke” gets thrown around as an insult by people who think caring about systems of oppression and other people’s problems is somehow embarrassing. It isn’t. It’s a badge. “Dissident” because in the early days of MAGA 2.0, criticism of the administration was treated as something close to treason. Fine. Dissident it is.
This site is written by one person: a working-class kid from California, educated in California public schools and grad school in Manchester, UK. Works in marketing. Lives outside the United States, which makes it easier to see clearly. No party affiliation. Unapologetic leftist. Votes Democrat when forced to choose, because lesser-of-two-evils is still a choice, but has no illusions about what the Democratic Party is.
The goal is a site that treats its readers as adults. No safe-space hedging. No both-sides-ism. No pretending the situation is normal. It isn’t.

What This Site Covers
Politics — Authoritarianism, MAGA, the Republican Party’s ongoing collapse into fascism, and the Democrats’ chronic failure to fight back.
Economics — Who actually grows the economy (spoiler: not the party that claims to), trade policy, deficits, and the class war being waged from the top down.
Legal — The gutting of the rule of law, judicial capture, deportations, due process, and what happens when the Justice Department becomes a personal weapon.
Healthcare — The only developed country without universal coverage keeps finding new ways to make that worse.
International — U.S. foreign policy, the Israel-Palestine conflict, NATO, and the real cost of American empire.
Media — Who owns it, what they won’t cover, and why the press keeps failing the public.
Position on Israel-Palestine
This site’s position is unambiguous: what is happening in Gaza is a genocide. Call it what it is. Israel was established through the forced displacement of the native Palestinian population and that displacement has never stopped. The U.S. government, both parties, funds and enables it. This site opposes that unconditionally. Not because of antisemitism — the opposite of Zionism is not hatred of Jewish people — but because ethnic cleansing is wrong regardless of who does it or which government bankrolls it.
